Information System Infrastructures
Purpose
Estwald ISI is an independent Information Technology (IT) consultancy with the training and experience necessary to meet
the IT needs of the home, small office and home office (SOHO), as well as small and medium businesses (SMB) who cannot
afford a perminent staff of IT personnel.
What is an Information System Infrastructure (ISI)
Broadly speaking, it concerns the integration of components for the purposes of collecting,
storing and processing data, and delivering information, knowledge, and digital product. This
translates into the optimization of computing devices and network to work seamlessly with the
various software products being used by the client. In reality this can become a juggling act, as the
demands of multiple software programs running on one or more devices (computers, servers, tablets,
cell phones, appliances, and smart TVs) may exceed the limited resources available in the form of network
bandwidth, processor availability, memory usage, and storage space among other things.

Who Am I
My name is David Engel and I am a retired System’s Engineer who worked for a top tier defense corporation for over 40
years. I have a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Science degree
in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University. Professionally, I have been developing software packages since 1981 and
designing, testing, installing, and maintaining information systems since 1986.
Personally, I bought my first computer, an Apple II Plus, in 1978, and began building my own machines in 1988 as generic
parts became available. Early on in my career, I casually assisted other hobbyists with computing issues, and in time, this
transitioned into supporting departments in my corporation and the general public. In the early 90’s I became friends with a local
attorney and through his word-of-mouth I garnered clients in real estate, agriculture, legal, and brokerage fields.
Computer Science is not only a vocation to me; it is my avocation as well. I enjoy the challenges involved in adapting the
technology to a given situation, and every situation has some unique aspect to it that stretches the mind and keeps me on my
toes. The remainder of this website is dedicated to various network, computer, and software topics. Hopefully you will find them
entertaining and educational. And if nothing else, the next time you go into a local retailer for some computer related item you will
recognize how uninformed most of the staff actually are.
